Mother is quite ill. Daddy has been old and sick since I was eight years old. His income ceased when I was thirteen. At ten we left our hometown and had to make new friends and become familiar with a new school. At sixteen I graduated from high school, accepted a position, and fell in love. From that day to this life would have been unbearable without John.
I am so glad he has a sense of humor. I wrote a little note today and sent it special delivery - "Don't call me unless you have something to say." I was a little afraid he wouldn't call and would be hurt. He's a good sport and I love him.

ContextThis is the journal of Virginia Lee Scott, my grandmother, written when she was seventeen and first dating my grandfather, John Arnold Wilson. It's a dairy published by Media Drug Stores and includes space for two entries per day, with facts about the era printed at the bottom, which I have included in italics. Following, 1928, is the journal of John Arnold Wilson, my grandfather, at age nineteen and in love with my grandmother, followed by my grandmother's journal in 1931. Archives
