Another evening that I will never forget! My first swimming lesson, at Willow Grove; way downtown to the Stanley-Richardson in "man power"; then the "Russian Inn" to dine. Oh such rain and so many cars, busses, taxis, and trams. And you were going to ask me to try to forget you. Oh, John, do you think that I could? Never never. I want only you, and I want you always. What do you mean by a successful man? You are a success. I deserve the best, you said. Then I deserve you and you are mine forever. You were so discouraged. I love to see you smile. I am the only one who could have made you smile tonight, then it does not depend on you but on us both.

ContextThis is the journal of Virginia Lee Scott, my grandmother, written when she was seventeen and first dating my grandfather, John Arnold Wilson. It's a dairy published by Media Drug Stores and includes space for two entries per day, with facts about the era printed at the bottom, which I have included in italics. Following, 1928, is the journal of John Arnold Wilson, my grandfather, at age nineteen and in love with my grandmother, followed by my grandmother's journal in 1931. Archives
