DID YOU EVER BANG YOUR NAIL? If your nail is banged hard, it turns blue, for a blood vessel has been injured, causing bleeding under the nail. In time, the nail loosens, comes off, and a new nail gradually forms underneath it. But if the special cells which have the power of making the nail are injured, no new nail can form again.
Perhaps I am selfish, without a thought for anyone in the world but myself. I'm sorry you think that of me, Daddy. But you have said several things today that are not like you so I should worry. You said that John has changed me and you even damned him. God bless him. God bless him. He thinks I can't be improved.

ContextThis is the journal of Virginia Lee Scott, my grandmother, written when she was seventeen and first dating my grandfather, John Arnold Wilson. It's a dairy published by Media Drug Stores and includes space for two entries per day, with facts about the era printed at the bottom, which I have included in italics. Following, 1928, is the journal of John Arnold Wilson, my grandfather, at age nineteen and in love with my grandmother, followed by my grandmother's journal in 1931. Archives
