Would a lady have done that? Ah, you say, she would and did for one she loves and trusts. If someone had told you two years ago that such an evening as this could exist you would not have believed him - but now - where love and comradeship are, many things are made possible. Of the millions of girls in this world, I have been chosen as the only one you love - It is my privilege to rest in your arms, to lay my head on your shoulder. You wait for the day when I can fall fast asleep in your arms and depend on you for protection. Very modern people think that women are capable of taking care of themselves and "clinging vines" are a thing of the past! How blessed I am to have you to depend on.

ContextThis is the journal of Virginia Lee Scott, my grandmother, written when she was seventeen and first dating my grandfather, John Arnold Wilson. It's a dairy published by Media Drug Stores and includes space for two entries per day, with facts about the era printed at the bottom, which I have included in italics. Following, 1928, is the journal of John Arnold Wilson, my grandfather, at age nineteen and in love with my grandmother, followed by my grandmother's journal in 1931. Archives
