Today, continue to let go of self-judgement. Instead, focus on the gifts being presented to you. The gift of friendship, of a good book, of transportation, of something to eat, of some little evidence of beauty and kindness. See gifts everywhere.

Today, focus on letting go of your constant stream of self-judgements. Let go of judgements about details that don't really matter (your bad hair day, your dirty car). Let go of holding yourself to higher standards than you hold other people or standards near impossible to meet. Treat yourself with the same gentleness and wisdom you would children just learning their way in the world. Forgive yourself. Allow room for learning and mistakes.
From Wayne Muller's book Legacy of the Heart:
"Those of us who seek to feel important through our accomplishments must be particularly careful. As we strive to accomplish more and more, we tend to take ourselves and our work very seriously, until over time we feel increasingly tired, unappreciated, overwhelmed, and isolated . . . The practice of humility invites us to consider that while there is much important work to be done in the world, our work does not make us important. Our importance, our value, and our worthiness rest in a having been born a child of God on the earth. Nothing more is required." From Wayne Muller's book Legacy:
"When we feel broken or incomplete, these are the moments we feel most unworthy of love. We feel that our pain, confusion, or fear is clear evidence that we must be doing something terribly wrong, and we must frantically struggle to make ourselves acceptable before we may earn the right to be loved. But in fact, we have it backward: It is precisely when we feel broken that we are most in need of love." Today, all day, treat yourself with kindness and mercy in thought, word, and action (and accept it from others), whether or not you feel worthy. |
