Palm Sunday. Just imagine – to church twice in the same day! The music this evening was lovely. John, you are the only person from whom I take orders and that only because you give them so indirectly. You ask for all my rubber bands and you get them and when I asked if there is anything else you want and you say a kiss – you seem to get it!

After hours of waiting, you have come and gone again – like a lovely fairy dream. Will it be another week before I will see you again? My ring has made a scar on your finger and I have made one on your heart that grows deeper with each tiny moment? Whether or not we will be together six years from now (as God wills it) I will have the happy memories of evenings like this and others we have had together.
So lonesome! Will tomorrow evening never come? This day has seemed like years.
The 1927 READY REFERENCE DIARY has been carefully compiled and arranged with information to meet the popular demand. Recommend this diary to your friends. They will appreciate your suggestion. I have missed you so much since Monday. How much brighter I have felt since you called me this afternoon. Oh the joy when I heard your voice. And tonight while you were working hard, I listened to lovely soft music. Beethoven and Moonlight Sonata, his Fifth Symphony and his Gavotte. Lovely music and you to dream about.
Lonesome. No one here but Alice and she is studying. Last Wednesday seems like a miserable dream but tonight almost as bad. I'm lonely. The wind howls between the April showers. I want you, I need you. Which? Tonight or last Wednesday.
ARE SWEETS GOOD FOR CHILDREN? People used to think that sugar was bad for children. Actually, a sensible amount is necessary, because children need the heat and energy supplied by sweets, because they are very active and lose heat quickly. Commencement of Evening School classes. Such a drizzle. You were going to meet us, John, but Daddy called to tell you that I would not be there. I wonder if you will call me. I wonder if you are glad or sorry. You will be tired tonight after working late at the bank. And when you go home, will you think of me as I am thinking of you? And dreaming of moments we have had together and of those yet to come - "six years from now."
Our last few evenings of classwork for the term. How much "shorthand" have I learned? Of course you came home with me. Are you glad that school is over? Will it begin a new chapter in my life as the term was the chapter in which I found the crisis, the climax of our young lives? Perhaps a new chapter will be just as lovely - if it is possible.
THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE NEW EASTER HAT: The Easter Hat is probably a survival from the old English custom of wearing a new article of dress on Easter Sunday to insure good fortune in love affairs all year. In church this morning I tried not to forget, "Beware, lest thou forget the Lord thy God." My mind insists on drifting - and always to you. "Temptation" by Dr. Thomas was very much a needed sermon. None of us ever escape temptation! John! Would that I were all you think I am! "Yield not to temptation."
Can it be possible? The three days since Wednesday have been "hell" to you! Because of them you have almost stayed away tonight. I, too, would like to strike that evening out of my calendar. But since we cannot do that we can forget it. And you will always come back to me no matter how many Wednesdays! What makes a strong man weep?
GEMS: Common Transparent Gems are - Amethyst, Beryl, Diamond, Emerald, Garnet, Opal, Quartz, Ruby, Sapphire, Topaz. Common Opaque Gems are - Agate, Jasper, Lapis-Lazuli, Malachite, Onyx, Porphyry, Turquoise, Ultramarine. Another day and still I'm thinking of you. Over and over again I have compared Wednesday and last Sunday evenings. The tiny stolen kiss Sunday meant so much to me. Wednesday evening seems like a nightmare. I want to see you again so much. I have waited two days and still there is all day tomorrow. If only I could know now what you are thinking. What a shock when Lester came and asked me to go to the movies. He is ( ? ) and says that "Wilson is a darn nice fellow."

ContextThis is the journal of Virginia Lee Scott, my grandmother, written when she was seventeen and first dating my grandfather, John Arnold Wilson. It's a dairy published by Media Drug Stores and includes space for two entries per day, with facts about the era printed at the bottom, which I have included in italics. Following, 1928, is the journal of John Arnold Wilson, my grandfather, at age nineteen and in love with my grandmother, followed by my grandmother's journal in 1931. Archives
