Written in the front of Virginia's diary.
If I should die--I pray the Lord my soul to take. This diary may be read by my mother only, before being given to John Arnold Wilson. He may do as he desires with it provided he allows no one else to read it. Every word of it has come from my heart--so far as our language permits the expression of feeling. My "peach stone" basket is John's first gift to me. I want him to have it and the two rose petals that will be found in my Bible. A last word to you, John. Try to make others as happy as you have made me in the happiest days of my life.To Mother--you have been a most faithful friend and pal. I leave with a friendly feeling toward the world and await you all (I pray) in heaven.

ContextThis is the journal of Virginia Lee Scott, my grandmother, written when she was seventeen and first dating my grandfather, John Arnold Wilson. It's a dairy published by Media Drug Stores and includes space for two entries per day, with facts about the era printed at the bottom, which I have included in italics. Following, 1928, is the journal of John Arnold Wilson, my grandfather, at age nineteen and in love with my grandmother, followed by my grandmother's journal in 1931. Archives
