Much of our suffering is caused by our efforts to avoid uncomfortable feelings. Tara Brach, in her book Radical Compassion, reminds us that we resist uncomfortable feelings by blaming others, by trying to fix, by over-scheduling, by tensing or numbing our bodies, by becoming defensive, and by armoring our hearts. If you let yourself feel your feelings - without so much judgment, resistance, or fear - they will pass through. And we can hear the needs or wisdom they hold.
